CLOTHESLINE (WHITE OXFORD SHIRTS), 2003
Jean Shin: Clothesline (White Oxford Shirts)
The artist has reduced the series of white Oxford shirts to their collars, cuffs, buttons, and seams. Shin stitched the shirts together side by side suggesting a clothesline. Oxford shirts are the staple of the white-collar uniform, but these emptied shirts form a kind of endless and perhaps replaceable workforce all lined up. In Clothesline, the figure is absent; only the ghostly traces of the skeletal structure remain.
