Jean Shin: Student Body
Jean Shin’s room-sized installation engages the architecture of the Johnson Museum while offering an abstract representation of the Cornell University student body. The site-specific piece features donated clothing from Cornell students, which Shin arranges to create a large-scale mural of cut-out garments on the walls. In addition, she uses the seams of the clothing to form a net that hangs from the ceiling. By expanding the notions of community and space, Shin blurs the boundaries between the private and the public, the student body, and the museum.
